Last night was a quick camp with a fire pit blaring to keep us warm. Easy meals all around too. Early to bed.
Happy Birthday to Stef this morning.

We had bought half a cherry pie and candles from the Coober Pedy Bakery and tried to wake Stef in the rooftop tent. |

| Stef is in there somewhere. |

After a chilly night - very chilly we were up and on the road by 8.30.
Drove along Mulga Park rd - part of the Gunbarrel Highway around the side of Mt Conner.

| There is Mt Conner on the right. |

| Around the North west side of Mt Conner. |
Then onto the Lassiter Highway heading for Yulara. Stopped for lunch just past Curtain Springs.
Into the Ayers Rock Campground. A queue to book and we are in the overflow. Ground hard as hard. Showers, load of washing. Some fiddling with my car. I have a Tyre scrubbed badly. So the fellas moved three of them around. Fingers crossed.
Phil used the drill (Dad’s invention) to poke holes in his stone guard.

Off to Field of Lights by bus from Campground.
There are 50 000 handblown, solar powered lights scattered among the landscape. Very effective.
Bus home then into cars and off the Outback Pioneer Hotel for a bite to eat.
 |
| Out last meal “out” for a while. |
We hit the road tomorrow heading to Kings Canyon.
The forecast tonight is cold again. So maybe another layer.
We are all a bit weary.
The lights looked good, was it worth the effort?? Also hope the car is OK
ReplyDeleteThe lights were worth the effort, though I was tired and cold...amazing sight though. The car is all ok, thankfully able to get it sorted in Alice Springs.
DeleteEeeeekkkk the car. How did you get the scrubbing? Why is he making holes in his stone guard? Field of lights looks awesome! How long will the child of lights be on? Been on a while now or is it now permanent?
ReplyDeleteYep, always something with the car it seems, but thankful to be able to sort things in Alice Springs. Phil was making holes in his mudguard to let the hot exhaust fumes through. It worked for most of the trip, but fell off somewhere in the Simpson - Col and Greg in the Troopy picked it up and presented it to Phil later in the day.
