Another chilly night but we were all a little more prepared. I layered a little more AND filled the hot water bottle.
A change up today. We are heading off aiming for 8am then filling up at Curtain Springs where fuel is cheaper. 3/4 tank still cost me $119. $212.6 per litre.
We didn’t go to the Rock as we’ve all been. You do get glimpses from road in.

Uluru is visible in this somewhere. Taken out the window over my shoulder at 100 kms |
We breakfasted at Mt Connor lookout.
Amazing to see how it changes as you view
from different angles. Some random bloke on
UHF radio said. “If Ayers Rock wasn’t out here,
this Mt Connor is worth coming out for.”
| There it is again |
| Me with Mt Connor in background from the Lookout point across the highway. |

| Panoramic shot looking from Mt Connor round about 270 degrees past a salt lake/clay pan to the sand dune we were standing on |
From breakfast we headed for our next campsite at Kings Creek Station. We chose it because it allows campfires and it’s mighty cold without a fire.
We arrived, set up camp, had lunch and sat around for a while. Mary and Phil have been worried about Kate, who is home alone and has been unwell and was off to hospital last night as she wasn’t getting better. It was a worry for Mum and Dad. Anyway, family friends Nic and Kane to rescue last night and Aunty Clare came to stay for a couple of days. A weight of Mary and Phil’s minds.
We then headed off to look at Kings Canyon (not Greg, who is not feeling 100% and stayed back to do the laundry etc)
Kings Canyon was amazing. Photos tell the story.

| The Entryway. |
| We are heading up there. |
| Starting out... |
Emergency location, they had helicopter landing spots and a big coffin like esky type box out there for evacuations. |
| Some of original sea floor, rippled rock. |
| Some of the local birdlife. |
| Amazing rock shapes and textures. |
| Crossing the canyon. Papparazzi is going strong. It wasn't posed at all. |
| This wall was awesome. Looked like a chiselled piece of timber. |
| NO fences, we were 'on the edge' |
| Some more wildlife. |
| Colours, textures, shadows. |
| Sun getting lower, colours grow richer. |
| Heading back to car park. |
We needed to collect some firewood on the trip home. Didn’t take long with 6 of us collecting. Beautiful sunset colours with almost full moon. It’s due to be full tomorrow night.
A lovely night around the campfire trying to burn down our wood pile. Plans for bacon and eggs in the am.
Cuppa, hot water bottle and bed about 10.30.
Nice sunset. Hope Kate is ok!
ReplyDeleteKate was OK, a bit scary for her though, home alone and not feeling well, started a new job and in charge of things on the home front, and Mum and Dad were a long way away. Thankfully some good family friends came to her rescue and she is all OK.
